Introduction
Hello, beautiful souls! Welcome back to Life With Training Wheels. I know I’m a day behind and I apologize for that, but today, we’re going to be diving into the powerful energies of the New Moon at 12 degrees of Leo that happened yesterday on August 4, 2024, at 5:13 am MST. We are still in the window of being able to utilize the energy while it’s at its peak and to harness the lessons and directions it’s guiding us toward. In this post, we’ll explore what this New Moon signifies, its aspects, and how it influences us collectively and personally. Stick around till the end for specific insights for your rising sign and some grounding rituals to harness this energy fully.
What is a New Moon?
New Moons are a time of new beginnings, a fresh start, and a moment to set intentions for the upcoming lunar cycle. They symbolize a blank slate, offering us a chance to plant seeds for the future, initiate new projects, and start anew. Just like when we plant seeds in the ground, in the dark, and then water it and care for it, soon we will watch it grow. So too, we can do the same with our life and our goals and aspirations. Think of it as a cosmic reset button, or cosmic planting of our soul, allowing us to align with the lunar energy for fresh starts and setting powerful intentions. The beautiful thing too is they come every month.
One of the reasons they are so powerful for setting intentions is because New Moons are when the Sun and Moon are aligned in the sky. The Sun represents our ego, our desires, what we want to go after in life, but it also represents our heart. The Moon represents our emotions and what we want to feel safe and secure and to experience on an emotional level. When our heart’s desires and our emotions are aligned, it is powerful. And every month, the Universe, God, Spirit, whatever you believe is guiding us on where to focus our energies, guiding us to look at what will continue to propel us forward in our learning and growth and living not only for ourselves but for the collective and for our higher power. Guiding us how to make this world a more beautiful place by being the most authentic and healed versions of ourselves. I guess that’s an overview of my belief in Astrology as a whole, not just New Moons. For me personally, Astrology is one way I listen to and receive God.
What does a New Moon in Leo represent, collectively?
A New Moon in Leo brings forth themes of creativity, self-expression, leadership, and courage. Leo is all about shining our light, embracing our inner child, and stepping into our power with confidence. Leo is about finding our joy, our purpose, our passions. It is about learning to live this life through our heart. Collectively, this New Moon encourages us to express our authentic selves and pursue our passions with a brave heart. It encourages us to love ourselves, our inner child, and to love those around us. It encourages us to be leaders, but by love not force.
Leo’s energy is vibrant, dramatic, and full of life. It encourages us to take center stage in our own lives and not shy away from the spotlight. It encourages us to live authentically as who we are deep down. In that sense, it is asking us to look at those things that bring us delight and joy, but we shy away from because of what people may think? If we have lost some joy in our life or are feeling stuck in a rut, it’s asking us to reconnect to our inner child and bring more playfulness into our lives. For when we are living our purpose and living in a state of Joy, it is then that we are more likely to get Divine inspiration, to hear the messages from God, and to spread more love to the planet. When our cup is full, it is then that we are able to spill out blessings to others. It’s like “What’s in Your Cup?” story that goes around on social media and is such a beautiful analogy:
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? “Because someone bumped into me!!!” Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So, we have to ask ourselves… “What’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.
That is precisely what a New Moon in Leo is asking us to look at – what’s in our cup? What seeds of intention can we plant to bring more joy, gratitude, and more of our authentic selves into the cup?
What About the Aspects?
When looking at New Moon’s, not only do we want to look at what it represents on its own, this is the base message, but we also want to look at what other conversations it’s having, and additionally what other important conversations are happening in the sky as well to get a more nuanced understanding of what we are being guided toward.
New Moon in Sextile to Mars and Jupiter in Gemini
This aspect enhances our drive, enthusiasm, and optimism providing a burst of energy and motivation to communicate our ideas and take action. It’s a favorable time to pursue new learning opportunities and expand our horizons. Mars brings action and assertiveness, while Jupiter expands and amplifies. Together, they create a potent force for positive change and growth, particularly in areas of communication and intellectual pursuits. Jupiter in Gemini is perhaps bringing us new ideas, goals, new ideas of adventure, new learning opportunities, new ways to bring a little bit more heart centeredness and joy into our lives, while Mars is bringing the willpower and determination to go after this. With sextiles though, you have to put in a little bit more effort to get the most out of the energy.
New Moon in Trine to the North Node in Aries
This aspect emphasizes our destiny and soul’s purpose. It’s a harmonious connection guiding us toward our true path, where we are meant to learn and grow in this now moment, and encouraging bold steps towards our goals. The North Node in Aries calls for courage and independence, urging us to embrace our pioneering spirit and take charge of our destiny. Both Aries and Leo are about being true to ourselves. So this trine is not only asking, but telling us, that whatever is in our heart’s desire (not our flesh), wherever our passions lie, if we go after that we will be following our true north and living in our purpose.
Other Aspects: Mars in Gemini Sextile the North Node
Not only is the New Moon in Trine to the North Node, Mars in Gemini is also in a sextile to the North Node. This reiterates the importance of our life’s direction. This aspect calls for action-oriented efforts towards our higher purpose. It’s a time to take initiative and align our efforts with our soul’s calling. This energy is about moving forward with curiosity and an open mind, exploring new ideas and paths that align with our true selves.
Other Aspects: Venus at the Critical Degree of 29 in Leo
The 29th degree is a critical degree because it is the end of each sign. It is when we have learned the lessons of the sign, and before moving into the next sign we need to embrace what serves us and let go of what we learned is no longer serving us. It is where we digest the lessons of the sign. So Venus, the planet of love and values and material things, has been on a journey through Leo, the sign of joy and courageousness and living with heart, and is just about ready to leave. In fact, it will be changing signs shortly after this New Moon is exact, so we need to reflect on these lessons and see what final conversations Venus is having and how it relates to this New Moon energy.
Venus Square Uranus in Taurus
This square can bring sudden changes or disruptions in relationships and finances. It’s a time to embrace flexibility and openness to the unexpected. Uranus shakes things up, prompting us to break free from old patterns and embrace innovation. This is beautiful, really, as the Universe is always supporting us. Leo is a fixed sign, so it can tend to be too loyal and hold on to things for too long, and with Venus this may mean relationships or material things. With Venus squaring, which is a challenging aspect, Uranus right at this critical degree, it is helping us to shake off whatever it is we are trying to hold too tightly on to. It is making changes where we may be too stubborn to do it on our own.
Venus Trine Chiron in Aries
This trine offers healing opportunities, particularly in areas of self-worth and identity. It’s a chance to heal old wounds and embrace our true selves. Chiron, the wounded healer, helps us transform our pain into wisdom and strength. Venus and Leo both have a lot of love and compassion, so this trine to Chiron in Aries is really helping us heal any self-doubt we have about who we are and what we are meant to do. It’s helping us see, and maybe even more importantly feel the patterns we may have adopted from any wounds where we have held ourselves back, for whatever reason, because it didn’t feel safe. This is helping us see that it is now safe to be who we really are. The world is ready for us. Our inner child is ready for us. The love is here, and always has been. We’ve just looked for it externally and this is helping us to see it’s internal. The more we love ourselves and learn that we are worthy just the way we are, the more the people that don’t see our worth will fall away and the ones that do will gravitate toward us, enabling us to heal these wounds even more. You aren’t meant to be everyone’s cup of tea, and you are starting to realize that is perfectly fine.
Venus Inconjunct Neptune in Pisces and Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius
These inconjunct aspects bring a sense of adjustment and re-evaluation in our dreams and transformative processes. We might feel a bit out of sync but it’s an invitation to recalibrate our vision. Neptune dissolves boundaries and can bring confusion, and Pluto transforms but can also bring power struggles. This could just be the uncomfortable feeling of knowing the transformations that have taken place, and are taking place, knowing what you need to let go of but are afraid to because you then don’t know what the future holds, and questioning whether or not you should. But it is asking you to connect with your higher self, you know the truth of who you are and what you need, and is asking you to trust, even though it’s uncomfortable.
Venus Conjunction with Mercury in Virgo
This conjunction enhances our analytical and communication skills, helping us articulate our desires and needs more clearly. Mercury in Virgo brings precision and clarity, aiding us in practical matters and detailed planning. This gives a little bit of stability or guidance of how to ground in this new moon energy. However….
Mercury Retrogrades right after the New Moon and Venus moves into Virgo
Mercury will go retrograde right after this New Moon until the end of August. It starts its journey in Virgo, but will go back into Leo as well. This mercury retrograde is a period to review, reflect, and reassess. Pay attention to communication, travel, and technology, as these areas might require extra care and patience. Retrogrades are times to go inward, re-evaluate our plans, and make necessary adjustments before moving forward. With this Mercury retrograde it is first asking us to re-evaluate or re-work things Virgo related, such as our daily habits and routines, but then moves back into Leo asking us also to re-assess the seeds that we planted at this New Moon. This is not a bad thing. Mercury Retrogrades are seen as bad and annoyances because things slow down or don’t work the way we want them to right away, but it’s because we are being given the opportunity to look to see if anything needs changing before moving full steam ahead. It gives us an opportunity to dot our i’s and cross our t’s. Additionally, with Venus moving out of Leo and into Virgo, this also indicates to me that we are to move ahead with whatever we are planting at this New Moon, but to do so methodically, to think about how the decisions we make for ourselves affect others, and the best ways to put things into practice. It takes a little bit of the emotion out of it, so we can put it into practice.
Other Major Astrological Backdrops at this New Moon
Jupiter in Gemini Square Saturn in Pisces
This square highlights the tension between expansion and restriction. With retrograde patterns and such it is going to be squaring each other 3 times between now and 2025. It’s a balancing act between our aspirations and the realities we face. Jupiter wants to grow and explore, while Saturn sets boundaries and demands discipline. We see this in our own lives as well as on the world stage.
Uranus in Taurus Sextile Neptune in Pisces Sextile Pluto in Aquarius trine Uranus in Taurus – all at or near the 29th critical degree
This triangle aspect brings a mix of revolutionary ideas, spiritual insights, and transformative energy. It’s a dynamic force pushing us towards growth and evolution. Uranus innovates, Neptune inspires, and Pluto transforms, creating a powerful blend of energies that urge us to embrace change and spiritual growth. But at the critical degree, and especially with Uranus and Pluto in fixed signs, they are wanting to hold on. They have learned their lessons and taught us ours, but are not wanting to let go so easily of the old…..because change is hard. And all of these will be moving signs by the end of next year. Again, this is a back drop of our personal lives, as well as the world at large. And we can all see it and feel it. Great personal and societal transformations are taking place, whether we like it or are ready for it or not.
Overall Collective Message of the New Moon
This New Moon is asking us to embrace our creativity and leadership, align our actions with our soul’s purpose, and stay open to unexpected changes and be willing to release those patterns that are no longer serving us. It is asking us to move ahead, but not too quickly because we want to make it stick and there is just so much going on right now, it’s best to take it slow. It’s guiding us to step into our power and express our true selves with courage and authenticity. The energies at play encourage us to break free from old patterns, embrace new opportunities, and trust in our path.
Sign Specific Insights
Now we will get into each of the signs. I recommend reading your rising sign first, as that is going to be the most accurate for where things will actually manifest in your physical reality. But also go ahead and read for your Sun Sign and Moon sign as well. Your Sun sign will indicate where your state of mind is currently at and what you may be consciously focusing on. Your Moon sign may indicate where your emotional state is more focused and where you may be “feeling” things. Each person’s chart is unique and you are likely to resonate with one of these more than the others based on your natal chart.
