I recently had a Girls Night Out with a dear friend who is going to be moving out of state in a little over a week. We originally were planning on doing one of those paint classes – Sip N Paint or Canvas & Cocktails or whatever name your local one goes by. The studio we went to, Little Red Hen Creative Studio, does much more than just the canvas painting. What we chose was a DIY Decor night. Instead of canvas our art was created on cabinet doors. Instead of paint, we used patterned paper and modge podge, using paint only on the edge of the cabinet door and for fine details on the artwork. At first, I didn’t think I would really like this. I am new to painting and I have loved it, so I was a little disappointed this wasn’t going to be a paint night. But, once we got started and once we were finished, I loved it. The process is just as, if not more, creative and very hands on. And similar to painting it was very relaxing. There was one girl in the group who did the paper and modge podge on a painted canvas rather than on a cabinet door and it came out just as fantastic. I don’t know if there are as many places to come up with inspiration to do this sort of thing, but I think I will be trying my hand at doing this on my own just like the painting. Maybe combine the two somehow. My eyes are definitely beginning to open up to art and all its various forms. A creative side that I never knew I had is emerging. It is thrilling. I will be adding little hooks to the bottom of my masterpiece and using it as a key chain holder.
What do you think? Have you ever tried creating art with paper and modge podge? Inspire me!
