A Little More Joy & Creativity: My Next Adventure

Since July, I’ve felt a sudden pull toward doing more with my hands. A painting with my daughter helped turn that feeling into a new idea: Paint Nights and Craft Nights.

Beginning in July, about a month before the eclipses, I started going through a transformation. It’s still unfolding, and I’m excited to see where it goes.

All of a sudden, computer work—which I’ve done pretty much my entire career—was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to do more with my hands. I wanted to organize my home, bake homemade bread, upcycle and recycle things, craft, and learn how to sew, crochet, and knit.

These desires were intense, came on pretty suddenly, and they haven’t stopped. I want more joy and more creativity in my daily life. So now I’m figuring out how to make room for that.

I’ve always enjoyed doing crafts and hands-on things with my kids. I love painting with them, and we go over to my mom’s a couple times a year to have paint days with her too. And I cannot get enough painting and craft videos. My list of things I want to try just keeps growing. 😂

I’ve also gone through phases of being more serious with my diet and making more of our food from scratch. If you’ve been paying attention, you know I started making sourdough bread and was kind of trying to start a microbakery.

I had a couple pretty successful weeks, but I quickly discovered that turning it into a career is not my jam. I still want to bake for a small group of family and friends. But I don’t love baking enough to make it my job, and I don’t have the room to really do with it what I would want.

I could see myself burning out pretty quickly. The profit margin—and the joy margin—just aren’t great enough for me to dedicate that much of my time to it. I’d rather keep enjoying it on a smaller scale.

But then there’s painting and crafts.

There is SO much variety here, and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. And although I feel like a beginner sometimes, I’m not really. I’ve been crafting with my kids for 15 years!

The other weekend, I kind of did an experiment with my daughter. I was busy working on the computer for most of the weekend, and she kept wanting to paint with me. I was determined to make time for it. I already had this desire to bring more creativity into my life, AND I wanted that quality time with her.

So I told her we would paint for an hour. I was also testing myself a little: could I lead a Paint Party and do a painting in an hour?

I think I succeeded. This one probably took about 30 minutes. And I absolutely love it.

My autumn forest painting—the one I’d love to paint with you at our first Paint Night.

So… now I’m on a new adventure.

My current dream is to host Paint Nights and Craft Nights. Getting a little more creativity AND social activity into my life sounds magical. And I’m hoping some of you would enjoy that too.

The first thing I want to host is this painting. But I also have several other seasonal ideas in mind. You can see the current projects I’m gathering interest for here.

I’ve reached out to all sorts of organizations to see where I might be able to host, and I have a couple leads, including a church venue available to book. Now I want to gauge which of these ideas people are most interested in. Then I’ll schedule it!

Materials and supplies will be included, and I’ll walk you through the project. You don’t need to bring a bunch of craft supplies or have everything figured out before you come.

If one of the projects catches your eye, join the interest list and tell me what you’d like to make. Signing up is free and doesn’t commit you to buying a ticket. Once we have enough interest, I’ll share the date, location, price, and registration details.

I’m also dreaming of making a bunch of different things and attending craft fairs. I’m still learning to crochet, knit, and sew different things, and it’s so much fun learning! There are about a million things I want to make, so we’ll see where all of this takes me.

What about you?

Have you noticed any sudden changes in how you feel, how you see yourself, or what you want over the last several months?

From my perspective, the astrology definitely supports it if you have. It’s pretty wild. Let me know if you’d like me to dive deeper into that topic too.

And tell me—which project would you want to come make with me? ♡
